The history of Plastic Surgery in Korea

The history of plastic surgery in Korea begins with the doctor Ralph Millard.  Everything began six decades back when the people are becoming conscious of their appearance, of their personality and the corrections of facial features gained high importance.  The wind of globalization was on its way in 1950 soon touched the medical industry in Korea as well.  People started demanding high quality service in plastic surgery.  Koreans preferred Blepharoplasty by and large to improve their expressions.  Improvements in technology, industrialization, the flow of money, richness and modernization, everything combined together made people more and more conscious about their personality and social appearance.  Plastic surgery in Korea gradually gained importance with more people opting for the surgery.

It is well known that there are lots and lots of differences in the facial features that differentiate them with others.  Koreans, Japanese, Tibetans, and people residing in the Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and China have similar facial features.  Europeans are known for their sharper facial features.  While people belonging to India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka have a darker and prominent nose, black eyes and long black hairs, and wide eyes.  The desire for a change in the facial features made them approach Western country surgeons.  The insurgence of western country surgeons and their prominence and the rising demand for their service inspired Koreans to get educated in this particular field.   Now Korea is one of the countries where the service in plastic surgery and excellent skilled surgeons for their citizen.  The journey from the middle of the 19th century to this day is quite interesting to study.
