The history of
plastic surgery in Korea begins with the doctor Ralph Millard. Everything began six decades back when the
people are becoming conscious of their appearance, of their personality and the
corrections of facial features gained high importance. The wind of globalization was on its way in
1950 soon touched the medical industry in Korea as well. People started demanding high quality service
in plastic surgery. Koreans preferred
Blepharoplasty by and large to improve their expressions. Improvements in technology, industrialization,
the flow of money, richness and modernization, everything combined together
made people more and more conscious about their personality and social
appearance. Plastic surgery in
Korea gradually gained importance with more people opting for the
surgery.
It is well known
that there are lots and lots of differences in the facial features that
differentiate them with others. Koreans,
Japanese, Tibetans, and people residing in the Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and
China have similar facial features.
Europeans are known for their sharper facial features. While people belonging to India, Pakistan,
Bhutan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka have a darker and prominent nose, black eyes and
long black hairs, and wide eyes. The
desire for a change in the facial features made them approach Western country
surgeons. The insurgence of western
country surgeons and their prominence and the rising demand for their service inspired
Koreans to get educated in this particular field. Now
Korea is one of the countries where the service in plastic surgery and
excellent skilled surgeons for their citizen.
The journey from the middle of the 19th century to this day
is quite interesting to study.
