What is ptosis correction surgery?

A drooping eyelid is referred as blepharoplasty. In some cases the sagging eyelid covers the entire pupil, which completely interfaces with the vision, which results in amblyopic.

The major reasons that cause ptosis are;

Ø  Weakening muscles
Ø  Congenital weakness
Ø  Trauma
Ø  Neurologic diseases.

The ptosis problem can be corrected through the surgery. Physicians elevate the position of lid or lids to bring it in a proper position. This helps patients to get better vision and they can also get rid from vision difficulties. Physicians discuss about the therapy and their plans to treat the problem with the patient before they start the surgery. It is very important to educate the patients about ptosis correction surgery before they start operating. Normally, the pre-operative details are considered by the expert doctors.

First of all, the doctors check whether the patient is suffering from any form of eye disease or not. Ptosis surgery cannot be done if the patient is suffering from eye diseases. Doctors perform ptosis correction surgery only when then human eye are healthy. A general anesthesia is given in case the surgery is performed on children. In case, if the surgery is going to be performed on adults, local anesthesia is given to the patient. There are many ways to treat ptosis. They are; Aponeurosis advancement, Levator Resection, Muller’s Muscle Resection, Fasanella-Servat procedure and Brow Suspension.

In case, if both upper eyelids are treated, at least one of the eye pads is removed and the patients can return to their home to take rest. Another eye pad is removed the best day of the surgery.
